Web Dynamics prototype with .NET 9

Recently I started making a prototype of this website on .NET 9, looked at my previous developments and saw that I started making the first conscious steps in this direction exactly a year ago, on April 11, 2004, a prototype of the new Web Dynamics was started. However, at that time I was working and had no time for my pet project, with the new version everything came to a halt.

Now I continue to implement this prototype with .NET 9, make some new parts with View Component that differ from Partial View, all code almost from a clean slate, no legacy, apply all my new relevant experience and modern technologies. I will support the current Web Forms version and simultaneously develop a new site. Then web forms will go to the golden fund of my projects. After all, Web Dynamics has a long history.

Pet projects are such a thing that you either have to love them and do them, or give up. It would be possible to speed up and implement new Web Dynamics as quickly as possible, but no one needs it and it is not particularly interesting; the website is working perfectly now. There is a huge amount of work to do with the new version, but now the issue of my employment is the highest priority.

When you apply for a vacancy with all the necessary honest up-to-date information and HR sends rejections for relevant .NET vacancies, you don't know what goes through their heads. «You have great experience, a good resume, relevant skills, but we "selected another candidate and closed this position"». And this job position continues to be active on the website for months.

Website development plans

This project and Blackball appeared even before the release of ASP.NET Web Forms. It all started with static HTML pages, then followed up by Classic ASP (VBScript), then new version on Web Forms. There were no plans to develop anything large; it was a simple website for my portfolio, but then everything started spinning. Now the plans are to make a new version of this site on the .NET 9 platform. The site works, but I probably won’t develop any new functionality with Web Forms here. There’s no point in wasting time on this. Only .NET Core.

At this moment, job searching takes up all my time, this activity is the highest priority. I think a new version of the site with .NET 9 is only a matter of time, I need to resolve the issue with employment.

Many visitors ask me whether it is possible to publish articles here. At this moment, there are no publicly available content management tools. I decided to make 1) free user registration (with account management), 2) articles publishing tools (with drafts, statistics), 3) a public forum for IT specialists. In Russian and English.

It takes a lot of time to develop all this stuff, but now I'm very busy with the issue of employment and job search. I also spend time developing my Blackball and Mail Daemon projects. For now, it is planned that the release of the Web Dynamics update will be ready at May.

While working on the UI of my pet-projects, I finally came to the decision that small editing forms will be implemented in modal JavaScript dialogs, and large editing forms on a separate page. And the most frequently edited properties can be put into modal dialogs.

Codebase project

Yesterday I completed my new pet project for publishing various programming tests and other useful source code. This project was created just for fun and I really enjoyed it. There's still some work to be done there.

Geolocation Assistant update

Geolocation Assistant
Oh no, oh my God, this is amazing. Finally, I updated my pet project, Geolocation Assistant, to upload geotagged photos to determine geolocation. There is still a lot of work to do, but as a Minimum Viable Product this project is ready to go.

For example, use case:
You can go into a dense forest, get lost, "where am I? What should I do? Where should I go?"
Calm down, don't panic, everything is under control. Take your phone, turn on geolocation, shoot the photo, upload on GeoAss, find your way. Bingo.

Why do I change jobs often? That's a very good question. Because I am a programmer and my path is based on projects. The samurai has no goal, there is only a path. Work lifecycle is very simple: no projects » no money from clients » sorry guy, you're cool but free for new challenges. Nothing personal - it's just business. ))
